SYNOPSIS

It should have been easy. I needed the money. He needed a babysitter to keep him from snorting himself to death. I was cherry-picked especially for him. Responsible. Optimistic. Warm. Innocent. The worst part is that I should have known better.

Alex Winslow. British rock star. Serial heartbreaker. Casanova with whiskey eyes. ‘Don’t get near the devil in a leather jacket. He’ll chew you up and spit you out.’ Guess what? I didn’t listen.

I signed the contract. World tour. Three months. Four Continents. One hundred shows. My name is Indigo Bellamy, and I sold my soul to a tattooed god. Problem was, my soul wasn’t enough for Alex Winslow. He ended up taking my body, too. Then he took my heart. Then he took my all.

BOOK REVIEW

Midnight Blue surpassed all of my expectations. It was such heart-wrenching torture of a sizzling romance between beautifully broken characters in a truly ‘L.J. Shen’ fashion. The pages of the book were full of angst and pain and passion. For the majority of the time, I felt conflicted and just was not sure of whether I wanted to hug the main characters or kick their stubborn asses.

Alex Winslow was beautiful in a way storms were—only from afar. Just like them, he had the power to sweep and ruin you, two things I was too busy surviving to entertain.

Alex was the epitome of an overindulging alphahole, alluring but deadly. He was extremely broken, finding escape in alcohol and drugs while slowly losing his barely-there interest in life. He was cynical and damaged and determined to throw pain at his surrounding in order to suffocate the pain he was suffering deep inside all by himself. And when Alex’s self-destructive behavior threatened to destroy his music career, his work team hired him a babysitter in the form of the desperate to save her own family from poverty Indigo Bellamy.

She was warm and silky. Delicious, really. I wanted to take her like a drug. All at once, in one gulp. I wanted to overdose on her like cocaine, and heroin, and crack, knowing the destruction I was willingly inhaling into my body. Because Indie, like drugs, was a temporary fix.

Indie was a quirky introvert with an extremely kind heart. Determined, hard-working, passionate. I absolutely loved the way Indie stood up for herself and put arrogant Alex in his place. Honestly speaking, she was the best babysitter he could possibly wish for and get.

When I look at you, I see something broken that isn’t worth fixing. And you look at me like I’m a cheap thing to replace the expensive one that’s been stolen from you. See, we’re all vases. And you’re the one scattered on the floor, shattered beyond repair. So I’ll let someone else pick you up. It’s really that simple. Have fun with your temporary glue.

After many failed attempts at running Indie off, Alex started to see there was so much more to the feisty girl with blue hair and eclectic fashion sense. She slowly but steadily was becoming his muse. Their nights together in the hallway between their hotel rooms when the lyrics were pouring out of Alex were my favourite, hands down. And sexual innuendos in-between were also good.

Aside from the music inspiration part, it felt like Alex and Indie couldn’t understand what their intense feelings toward one another were. And even though Alex never made promises of love and dedication, his fascination and gravitation towards Indie were one of a kind. Alex desperately needed to be inside Indie the way she was inside him. So deep he wanted to peel his skin off just to get rid of her. He thought he needed to get rid of her…

In my mind, we were two asteroids orbiting around each other. I thought I was the sun and you were earth, but now I see I got it all mixed up. You were always the sun. And even now, when I look at you, I don’t see regret and pain and suffering. I see the biggest opportunity, the sweetest promise, the road I should be taking.

The sexual tension and chemistry between Alex and Indie were instant and undeniable. The feisty barbs, the hilarious banter, the soulful arguments shaped a unique connection that kept my eyes practically glued to the pages of this incredibly lyrical book.

The plot was filled with some crazy twists and turns that caused so many gasps and tears of mine. Every single action of the main characters was not random. Every single word of theirs mattered. Every single feeling counted…

Anyway, Midnight Blue is definitely one of the best by L.J. Shen (her writing was so emotive and evocative OMG) and shouldn’t be missed!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

L.J.Shen is an International #1 best-selling author of contemporary romance and new adult novels (her brooding alpha male characters are to die for I must say).

She lives in Northern California with her husband, young son and chubby cat.

She is very active on her social media accounts (I absolutely love her Instagram page), giving her readers the time of the day and engaging with them. I find it amazing and very inspiring that L.J.Shen (although very pretty and super talented) doesn’t feel that her time is more valuable than that of her dedicated readers.
