Review Policy

I’d like to make you aware of how I approach my reviews.

First of all, I maintain a certain list of books I’ve enjoyed to which I can point my followers who ask for book recommendations, as well as a sad little list of books I’ve pinned as trash. Brandon Sanderson did mention that a famous author once had said to him early in his career, “Don’t worry. If your book works for me, I’ll talk about it. If it doesn’t, I just won’t say anything.” And while I do agree that this is the best way for another writer to approach reviews—since the last thing that authors need is to feel that someone prominent in the field (don’t mind irrelevant little me) is gunning for them—I’m also of a belief that negativity is not necessarily bad if being truly constructive and objective.

Secondly, I read a lot and thus, like to keep some sort of a diary with mentions of how I felt while reading.

Thirdy, I tend to express my opinion about the writing instead of focusing on summaries of the books. I keep examples of different types of writing, and make some notes on them for aspiring authors who regularly visit my writing blog.

Finally, I’m super lazy more often than not, so I’ll insert the interpretation of my star rating here:

⭐ - trash

⭐⭐ - made me really mad

⭐⭐⭐ - just alright

⭐⭐⭐⭐ - amazing except for a few moments

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - personal favourite

*I will mention any ties I have to the author, or biases I might have in suggesting the book, just to be clear and on the record about such things.
