Ugly Love

This book will leave your heart open and exposed to the myriad of emotions Tate’s and Miles’s story will inflict upon it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

1. UGLY LOVE by Colleen Hoover

SYNOPSIS

The only thing Tate Collins and Miles Archer have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

NEVER ASK ABOUT THE PAST.
DON’T EXPECT A FUTURE.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all. Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.

BOOK REVIEW

Colleen Hoover’s stories are always heart-wrenching and soul-crushing. I’ve learned to never read her books on already bad days since they’re going to make me an even messier mess… Ugly Love wasn’t an exception. It was beautifully devastating. The first half of the book left nothing pretty from my manicured nails, while the rest was spent ugly crying (pun intended).

Love isn’t always pretty… Sometimes you spend all your time hoping it’ll eventually be something different. Something better. Then, before you know it, you’re back to square one, and you lost your heart somewhere along the way.

The storyline was split into the present narrated by Tate Collins (exploration moments of unexplained attraction, sexual desire, and later strong feelings) and the past told by Miles Archer (little snippets full of many heart-warming firsts and endless grief), taking turns throughout the entire book. Each of the voices was so prominent in the story and persuasive in terms of delivering all the hard feelings to the reader that I oftentimes found it difficult to split the lives of two people destined to meet and heal each other as a whole into two equal but separate halves.

“I hope she remembers the moment she became my everything.”

It’s always fascinating to see how independent, self-assured and confident adults fall into their own trap of ‘easy nothingness’. Tate and Miles failed to stick to their friends-with-benefits arrangement after sharing many intimate moments filled with all sorts of emotions, from basic interest and initial carelessness all the way up to love and pain from heartbreak. Lines that seemed to be perfectly straight and bold were blurred. Complicated questions kept piling up at a rather quick pace. Unspoken feelings were intentionally hurt. Enormous damage was regrettably made.

“If I were capable of loving someone… it would be you.”

The book was amazing. It left me shivering while exploring the ugly sides of love alongside with Miles and Tate. I won’t spoil more than I already did. Go and read Colleen Hoover at her usual best.

Again, what are you waiting for?

PS. There was supposed to be a book adaptation, but something happened, and the movie was unfortunately canceled. You can check out the teaser down below:
